Capital preservation
An objective that prioritises protecting wealth over growing it.
Capital preservation places the avoidance of loss above the pursuit of return. It is rarely absolute; most policies balance it against the need to outpace inflation over time.
Pure capital preservation is rarer than it sounds, because inflation erodes idle wealth even when markets do not. For most families the real objective is preserving purchasing power, which requires taking some risk. Naming that honestly avoids the trap of feeling safe while quietly growing poorer.
